I was surprised to find pink yuki-tsubaki
blooming in my neighborhood.
Yuki-tsubaki is a tree of Niigata-ken.
I also have a pink yuki-tsubaki tree
in my garden in Niigata.
Probably the buds are now coming out.
They are waiting for me, I'm sure.
See you in April.

What a lovely day!
What a beautiful sky!
What a happy day!
I am going to my daughter's to celebrate
my grandson's 14th birthday---
with a birthday cake I ordered for him.
He is koharu's brother.
He is older than koharu by six years.
koharu learns by imitating her brother.
koharu is proud of him as a brother.
By the way---
I'm going to join a tour of England.
I'll leave my apartment on Tuesday.
Visiting the Lake District National Park in England
has for many years been one of my cherished dreams.
I'd like to stand where William Wordsworth was born
and wrote such beautiful poems as "Daffodils" or
"We Are Seven."
I learned those poems when I was a senior high school
student.
Anyway I hope everything will be all right with me
-- all by myself.

It has been raining all day.
This rain has made the air so cold.
I can't do without a kotatsu.
I've found the buds of my karin
are beginning to open up!
I like watching tracks of a railroad.
I like traveling by railroad.
(my karin, today)

It has been warm these days.
Almost all spring flowers have come out.
The cherry trees will soon bloom, too.
koharu is now very happy and excited,
because
koharu is going to watch a movie
with her good classmates.
It is koharu's first experience to go to a movie
with her friends.
She is looking forward to the day March 23.
They will be accompanied by their mothers.
All of them will have a wonderful time.

Spring weather has arrived here in Tokyo.
It was a warm day and in the afternoon
we had a constant rain.
When I was going to a community center,
clouds covered the sun.
On my way back the sun appeared again
and I enjoyed spring colors of grass or flowers.

Happy Birthday, Daughter !
All that I'd like to say is
"Thank you so much, dear."

The landlady, owner of my apartment, died a sudden death,
the day before yesterday.
She came to Tokyo and began to live in her own apartment
last summer.
She lived alone next door to me. Her son lives upstairs.
She liked gardening very much. When I saw her doing some
gardening, I went outside and we often enjoyed chatting.
Her sudden death shocked me and made me sad.
Her son found her dead in bed on the morning of March 8.
When I talked to her just on the day before her sudden death,
she was quite all right. She said that she wanted to be much
stronger mentally.
No one can tell what will happen tomorrow.
No, tomorrow may not come.
Let's not put off till tomorrow what we can do today.
Please rest in peace, Mrs. K.
Do you know how much I miss you?
(at 5 p.m. today )
