The Japan Meteorological Agency expects
the very strong Typhoon No.10 will approach
Choshi, Chiba-Ken tomorrow morning.
We must take precautions against strong winds
and heavy rains tomorrow morning.
I'll stay at home. I'll be okay.
What will happen to commuters or students?
Do they go to work or to school
in this powerful typhoon?
Then the typhoon will hit
the Tohoku Region.
Let's take every possible care.
I pray Typhoon No.10 will not cause
great damage anywhere.
(blue skies at 5:00 p.m. today—
the calm before a storm? 嵐の前の静けさ?)

The typhoon No.10 caused enormous damage
in Tohoku and Hokkaido.
I can't find the right way to express
my feelings.
May God give courage to live
to all the sufferers!

On Sunday morning I felt better and called Mrs. M.
We have been good old friends
since we were university students in Niigata.
Mrs. M lives downtown Tokyo.
I asked her if she was free that day and had time to go
to the museum with me.
She said, "Oh, I'd like to see you and go to the museum.”
We decided to meet at the south gate of Shinjuku Station
at 11:30.
Mrs. M and I went to the Suntory Museum of Art
in Tokyo Midtown and enjoyed Emile Galle's works.
Emile Galle is a glass artist.
Emile Galle is famous as one of the major forces in the
French Art Nouveau movement.
Mrs. M and I appreciated his art glasswork , furniture
or drawing.

(files I bought for my daughter)

We usually have lunch at a restaurant
but as I had little appetite that day
we had a light lunch at Starbucks.

Thank you so much for a nice day, Mrs. M.
I was glad to know I was getting better
enough to go downtown Tokyo.

Yesterday I went to a bookstore in a nearby
station building.
I bought the following books.

When I was going out of the store,
I heard an announcement that there would be
a show of a world champion’s Yo-Yo Performance
on the 9th floor.
Oh, I've never seen a Yo-Yo Performance
by a champion!
I hurried to the 9th floor.
I enjoyed the performance with many boys and girls.
Yo-Yo was originally created in China and introduced
into Nagasaki, Japan in the middle of the Edo period.
The champion used yo-yo made in Japan, USA and Germany.
The champion looked like
a sleight-of-hand magician.

HK-san, whose husband passed away in Kyushu
7 years ago, came back to Tokyo to live with her parents.
I used to live in the apartment next to her parents' house
and we became good friends.
Her parents in his 90s and her 80s got ill
soon after her coming back to them.
They entered and left a hospital frequently
and HK-san has been taking care of them,
as I often wrote here about her.
HK-san did her best but you know there is a limit
to what she can do.
Last month her parents were admitted
to enter a nursing home.
Living in the nursing home costs much money.
Her parents sold their own house to prepare
for the cost.
HK-san makes it a rule to visit them once a week.
HK-san has moved into an apartment—about 5 minutes’
walk from my apartment.
Shall we start studying English together
to stimulate our brains, HK-san?

朝顔 is called ‘Morning glory’ in English.
What a nice name!
I do not like summer but I do love morning glories
which bloom in the early morning in summer.
Yoko-san, one of my good old friends in Niigata,
sent me a summer greeting card with a 3-D paper
flowerpot of Morning glories yesterday.
Oh, how refreshing these flowers are!
They make me so happy.
Yoko-san, how have you been since I saw you
last September in Niigata? I hope you’ve been good.
Sorry to say, I am afraid I can't go back to Niigata
this summer.
I'm a little weak in mind and body because I don't have
much appetite.
I'm looking forward to seeing you again-- in Niigata.
I know Yoko-san doesn't use a computer
and I sent her a letter of thanks.

How changeable today's weather is!
Sunny-cloudy-rainy-cloudy.
(at 10 a.m.)

(at noon)

I was busy taking care of my daughter's laundry.
When does her summer vacation begin?
Next week?

By the way, Yuriko Koike was elected
Governor of Tokyo---first female governor of Tokyo.
It does not concern me whether the Governor of Tokyo
is male or female.
I hope our new leader will be an honest,
powerful and inspiring leader---
no more money scandals, of course.
